FAQ's

PARKING AND TRANSPORTATION:

Q: Can we have more parking spaces?

A: At this time, we don’t physically have more spaces to allocate for students. The Sears shuttle lot is a convenient and free alternative for students who do not wish to walk from the Greenwood parking lot. We used to have the “Pit” (the parking lot in the back of campus). However, it isn’t easy to  get back the “Pit”, since the “Pit” is owned by the city.

Q: Is it possible for us to have subsidized bus passes?

A: The Student Body President is working to figure out how to reduce bus pass prices. He negotiating with Metro to get cheaper bus passes.

CLASSES AND CLASS-RELATED INQUIRIES:

Q: Is it possible for us to have our class syllabus printed by the teachers? Can we change the printing policy for the teachers?

A: The Math/Science/Automotive division is strongly encouraging faculty to make syllabi available only on Blackboard sites for any online or hybrid or web-enhanced course that has a Blackboard site. Thus, ONLY for courses that have NO online component are the syllabi expected to be printed for and distributed to the students. This policy was adopted because printing is a major expense for the college. If students think printed syllabi are really valuable, they should make that known to the deans, who are the ones telling faculty not to print so many copies of the syllabi.

Q: Is there any cooking classes on this campus?

A: Currently, we do not have them here on this campus. However, there are cooking classes available at the Lake Forest Park campus.

PUB

Q: When is the game room opened?

A: The Minister of Social Justice is working out the details of the Game Room Monitor position that need to be address before the Game room can be opened.

TUITION

Q: Why can’t we have a lower tuition?

A: Your tuition is determined by the Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges (State Board).  They decide what will happen to your tuition each year and then it is taken before the State Legislature who makes a decision as to whether the State Board’s recommendation will be upheld.

FOOD

Q: Can we have good microwaves?

A: The microwaves were temporarily having problems while they were placed next to each other. This is because using them at the same time in the same place would cause the circuit to flip, making one of the microwaves temporarily stop working. This problem has been solved by moving one of the microwaves from the eastern wall of the Main Dinning room to the northern wall.

Q: Is it possible for us to have more vending machines?

A: Due to the no competition clause, the vending machines with fresh food and coffee had to be removed from campus. However, all the remaining vending machines have been redistributed and their numbers have increased to meet the previous years demand.

Q: Can we have more candy at the cafeteria?

A: In the contract with Chartwells there is a no competition clause. In an effort to abide by this, Chartwells decided not to sell candy since both the bookstore and a number of vending machines on campus sell candy. If you would like to see a change in the type of candy offered, please specify which kinds.

ENTERTAINMENT ON CAMPUS

Q: Can we have parties four times a year?

A: Currently, there are festival events on campus, and all students are invited. In terms of having events specifically, there is a limitation with state funding.

Q: We want fieldtrips!

A: If you want to have fieldtrips, you can join a club. After you join a club, start to  plan activities including the fieldtrips.  However, the activities have to be related with the club itself.

BOOKS

Q: Can we have cheaper book prices?

A: The bookstore works very hard to provide students with reasonably priced textbooks. Unfortunately, the publishers are the ones that determine the price of textbooks, as the bookstore has to determine their prices based on what the publishers charge them for the books. Used textbooks are always the best way to save money, the bookstore always secures as many used books as possible.

 MISCELLANEOUS

Q: We need medical marijuana assistant program.

A: It is against Washington State and Shoreline policies. These policies explain  the possible sanctions and disciplinary actions for violation. Copies of these policies are available in the Human Resources and the office of the Vice President for Student Services.

Q: Re-open the Student Lounge.

A:  Currently, our student lounge is the PUB since the PUB was opened.
