Running Start
There are SIX simple steps to enroll in Running Start.
Step 1:
Applications
Consult with your high school counselor, teacher and parents
or guardians about your readiness. Submit a Shoreline Community College
Application for Admission form and an official copy of your high
school transcript to the Running Start Office in Room 5216 at the College prior
to posted dates.

Step 2: Schedule an
Assessment Test
You must take a placement
test such as ASSET or COMPASS to determine your readiness for
English and Math courses. The Running Start Office will help
you schedule a testing appointment at the SCC Testing Center once
you have completed Step 1.
Step 3: Take the Assessment Test
Take the ASSET or COMPASS Test as scheduled. You must qualify for English
101 in both Reading and Writing skills to qualify for the Running
Start Program. Placement into English 101 is the only way you
can qualify to take classes that will be covered by the RS Program.
Step 4: Receive Assessment Results
Bring a copy of your ASSET or COMPASS Test to the Running
Start Office. If you have qualified for the program, your
application will be forwarded to Enrollment Services. If you
did not qualify, but are still interested in the program, please
contact us for your options.
Step 5: Meet with Your High School
Counselor
Meet with your high school counselor in order to complete the
Quarterly Course Approval Form. For each quarter that you
attend at SCC in Running Start, you must complete this form.
The form must be signed by both your Counselor and your parent or
guardian.
Step 6: Attend Orientation
You will be notified by mail when your Orientation/Registration
appointment is scheduled. Please plan to attend this
appointment to complete your registration process.
