The last time television stations
broadcast in analog TV will be
February 17, 2009. After that, analog
TV wont work anymore. When
will you be switching to Digital
TV?
TV stations in all U.S. markets
are broadcasting in both analog
and digital TV right now, but will be
producing television only in digital
format in February of 2009.
The reasons for the change to
digital TV are simple. Digital TV
creates clearer picture quality and
frees up communication lines for
police and emergency services.
"The transition from analog
to digital television will be a historic
change and brings considerable
benefits for the American
consumer," said U.S. Secretary of
Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez.
"Not only will the transition
help expand consumer choices,"
said Gutierrez, "But more importantly,
the digital transition will
enable more efficient use of the
nation's airwaves providing new
advanced wireless services and increased
public safety services for
all Americans."
All U.S.Households are eligible
to apply for up to two $40 coupons
toward the purchase of Digital-to-
Analog Converter Boxes Starting
January 2008.
To be entitled for coupons,
households have to apply at the
National Telecommunications
and Information Administration
(NTIA) website before March 31
2009. The coupons will have traceable
numbers so each coupon can
be confirmed. These coupons are
similar to using store bought gift
cards.
However, if you do not have cable
you can get digital TV at a discount
from the NTIA. To do so, you
need to prove that your household
does not subscribe to cable, satellite
or other television related
services.
“With the coupon program and
a successful analog-to-digital transition
involving the public, industry
and government, the switch
from analog to digital television
will be completed as planned,"
said U.S. Assistant Secretary for
Communication and Information
John Kneuer.
