Anthony Shears: Hooked on phonetic

Local and national hip hop artist Anthony Shears was at Shoreline Community College Thursday for an interview. Shears has been working to promote his latest CD, “Welcome to Seattle,” which was completed two years ago. The CD, Shears said, was completed in a fragmented fashion, song by song – as if each song were its own project.

'Sweeney Todd:' Oddly delicious

The murderous plot of making men into meat pies comes alive in the 5th Avenue Theatre’s production of Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, now running through Nov. 15.
A talented cast of actors bring alive the Stephen Sondheim musical to tell the tale of Sweeney Todd (Allen Fitzpatrick) as he seeks revenge upon those who tore his family apart and sent him to prison. All would be well if it weren’t for Mrs. Lovett (Carol Swarbrick), who decides that the proper method of disposing of the bodies would be to grind them up and serve them in her meat pies.

So there I was writing my column for the upcoming issue of the Ebbtide. Lounging on the couch and watching The View (even geniuses have guilty pleasures; actually everything we do tends to be a guilty pleasure), I had just reached about 200 words when ABC News interrupted four estrogen charged women with their so-called Breaking News. I start to brainstorm possibilities: another hurricane disaster, a major development in bringing the boys home from Iraq, something worth interrupting The View.

Makes you wonder why certain people show up for certain events, or for that matter, why certain bands are matched up on the same bill.

Murrow (David Strathairn) and his team at CBS News as they go after Senator John McCarthy (portrayed on screen by himself through archived footage.) It’s a provocative look at a frightening time in history where people lived in fear of being accused (wrongfully or not) being a communist.
