Get ready to eat pieces of international movie popcorn as the Seattle International
Film Festival rolls into the area. The festival this year runs from May 19 to June 12
with more than 200 films hitting the screen. That’s 25 days of watching films that
may not even play in regular run theaters for another year or two. Ever heard of
films called Garden State or Napoleon Dynamite? These two films premiered at film
festivals a year before widespread release.

Colliding Differences Created By Hip-Hop Club

The Hip-Hop Elements club is ending the year with a hip-hop beat. The club is releasing
a collaborative CD entitled Colliding Differences. Featured are mad rhymes, crazy beats, and spoken word.
“We wanted a way to express ourselves,” said Melody Aler, club vice president. “A lot of people like to use their voice, so we felt this was a good thing to do.”

Ok, so I know next to nothing about Hip-Hop. I liked the Fat Boys when I was really little, I liked M.C. Hammer just like everybody else, and well, that’s just about it. But as a drummer and a bass player I can tell you when something really grooves. I can tell a sweet beat from a busted beat regardless of the musical genre. With that in mind, let me tell you that “Colliding Differences,” the album released by the Hip Hop Elements, has really impressed me.
