SCC honors Martin Luther King, Jr.
Events to honor Dr. King’s legacy are planned around the Seattle-Metro area.
In Everett, an array of community celebration events were scheduled throughout the day on Jan. 15.
A memorial walk that began at Everett CC kicked off the events. The march ended at the county courthouse, where a rally was held, with keynote speaker Reginald Gillins and rap singer Willie Will. An evening community celebration featuring performers and guest speakers was also held.
“The events were held to recognize and honor the life and work of Dr. King, create a unified community, and promote inclusion and diversity among the citizens of Snohomish County,” said Karyn Zigler, executive committee member. The celebration is held annually.
In Seattle, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee will sponsor the annual MLK event held at Garfield High School. The 2004 theme for the event is “March in MLK's Footsteps: Justice Begins at Home.”
The event will be held Monday, Jan. 19, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Workshops will run from 9:30 to 11 a.m., followed by a rally at 11 a.m. and a march at noon.
Garfield High School is located at 23rd and East Jefferson, in the Central District of Seattle.
