Schedule Changes

Monday, Nov. 3, is the last day to drop a class and receive a “W.” Any changes after that date require an instructor’s signature; the instructor will assign an indication of “NC,” “V,” or “Z,” which will appear on the student record. Nov. 3 is also the last day to change to or from Audit status.

Fomerly known as...

The campus club formerly known as Mi Grupo decided recently to change its name to ALAS, which stands for Association of Latin American Students (English) or Associanon de Latino AmericanoS (Spanish), and as a word means “wings.” The club hopes the new name will better identify it as a Latino student club. The club also feels the new name is better suited to integrate Latinos and Americans of Latino background together.

Scholarship opportunity

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation announced it will focus its undergraduate scholarship program on students transferring from community colleges.

The foundation plans to award 35 scholarships under the Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program in spring 2004 for the 2004-05 academic year. Awards will be renewed in subsequent years based on performance. Recipients may use the award at any accredited four-year college or university in the United States or abroad to pursue any four-year degree.

To be eligible, students must be attending a community college or have graduated since May 1999, plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to begin studies in fall 2004, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better.

Awards will provide funding for tuition, room and board, required fees and books for the period required to complete the undergraduate degree (generally two years). Each award can total up to $30,000 annually, although the amount will vary based on such factors as tuition.

Candidates for the scholarship must be nominated by the community college faculty representative. For more information, visit http://www.jackkentcookefoundation.org.
