Centers seek students for Diversity Transfer Program
Amid all of the hysteria surrounding direct transfers to the University of Washington, there are those who wish to make that course of action as painless as possible.
The college’s Multicultural Diversity Education and Student Development centers are teaming up to form the Diversity Transfer Program (DTP) to assist in that process. The program is currently in search of mentors from the faculty and staff and from the Employees of Color Caucus (EOCC), an organization of staff on campus. The centers are also looking for 40 students to pilot the program. To join, all a student must do is contact either center.
Dr. Yvonne Terrell-Powell is the director of both centers as well as the visionary of this program. She, along with Matt Orlando and Alicia Zweifach, center staff members, explained the benefits of the program. “Students receive individualized educational planning, guidance in finding financial resources, assistance in applying to four-year schools, and ongoing support in achieving academic, career and personal goals,” she said.
All interested students are encouraged to attend one of the informational meetings, on Oct. 23, 12:30 p.m. to 1:30pm, or on Oct. 24, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the Student Lounge, Room 5100. Snacks will be provided.
For more information or questions, contact the Multicultural and Diversity Education Center (Room 966), or the Student Development Center (Room 5239).
