King County Sheriff Dave Reichert to speak on stuff
Speech kicks off SCC’s new series
Shoreline Community College will host King County Sheriff Dave Reichert on Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at 11:30am. Reichert will speak on law enforcement in the 21st century. The presentation will take place in the Campus Theatre, and admission is free.
Reichert was lead investigator for eight years on the Green River Killer case, the largest unsolved serial murder case in United States history. The upcoming trial of suspect Gary Ridgway will provide a backdrop of intrigue as Reichert discusses technological breakthroughs in outdoor crime scene investigation and DNA technology.
Public safety issues in the new millennium and the importance of homeland security in the northwest will also be addressed.
Reichert was elected King County Sheriff in 1997 after serving as Deputy since 1972. He was reelected in 2001. In his 30-year law enforcement career, Reichert has served in a variety of positions. At the King County Sheriff's Office, he has held every rank from Patrol Deputy to SWAT and Precinct Commander before becoming Sheriff.
Some instructors in the Criminal Justice department are offering their students extra credit for attending this lecture. Check with your instructor before the event for details.
Reichert’s presentation is the first in a new series at SCC. Titled Leaders in the Classroom, the series will feature local, state and national leaders as guest speakers. These leaders, drawn from a variety of fields, will bring their vast knowledge, perspectives and passion to the classroom and to SCC students, staff, and community.
