Ever wonder just who makes up the student body of Shoreline Community College?
A look at data from the 2001-2002 school year offers a glimpse at these demographic facts.
Statistically, men do have the dating advantage, since 55.3 percent of students at SCC are female and only 39.8 percent are male.
Ethnically, the breakdown may surprise some readers: 13 percent are Asian/Pacific Islander; 5.5 percent are African American; 1.2 percent are Native American; 5.5 percent are Hispanic; 54.5 percent are White; 4.5 percent are international students; 2.8 percent labeled themselves as other; and 13.1 percent did not answer this question.
Rounding out the bland statistics is the age of SCC students. 20.4 percent are under 20, and 44 percent are between 20 and 29. 17.3 percent are between 30 and 39, and 14.5 percent are older than 40.
Breaking down the goals of students, one finds that 36.4 percent are planning on transferring. 40.2 percent are prof. tech students and 11.2 percent basic skills students.
The breakdown between full- and part-time students is almost even. 51.9 percent are full-time, and 48.1 percent are part-time students.
While SCC is in an area with many schools, students from 343 different high schools and 408 different ZIP codes attend school here.
For those of you transferring to the UW, you might find it interesting that the average GPA of SCC students who have graduated from UW with a bachelors degree is 3.2.
