Plea entered in Lori White case

James Kinsoon Pak, 26, will enter a plea on Nov. 19 regarding the charge of first-degree murder in the case of SCC student, Lori White, 24, and the first-degree assault of James Bennett, 26.

In the early morning of Sept. 10, police officers were dispatched to the 12700 block of 33rd avenue in response to reports of an assault in progress. At the scene, officers found White unresponsive and bleeding from gunshot wounds in the lobby of her apartment building.

Seattle Fire Department medics were called but pronounced White dead at the scene. Police were informed Bennett, a neighbor of White's, intervened in the attack and was also wounded.

During a taped statement, Bennett told detectives after arriving home he heard screaming outside his window. From his balcony, Bennett could see a woman in a robe being beaten.

Arming himself with a baseball bat, Bennett proceeded outside, yelling at the attacker to leave White alone. Witnesses report the attacker drew a pistol and began firing at Bennett and White.

Wounded in the arm, Bennett withdrew to the lobby, holding the door open for White. White ran to the lobby door followed closely by her attacker, who emptied his pistol. White was shot three times, collapsing on the lobby floor where she then suffered a barrage of punches and kicks.

Bennett continued to struggle with the attacker relinquishing control of his baseball bat in exchange for the attackers empty gun. The attacker laughed at Bennett saying, "It's empty." The assailant then left the scene in White's car.

Bennett recognized and later identified Pak as White's attacker. White and Pak had ended a romantic relationship, which was reportedly tumultuous at best.

Following an interstate investigation, Pak surrendered to authorities in Los Angeles County, California. A trial date has yet to be set.
