With their season winding down, the SCC women's basketball team lost a tough game to the Edmonds CC Tritons, ending hopes for their playoff bid.

With only two games left in the regular season, their chances are simply a mathematical impossibility.

Dolphin Audrey Huebner, a 5'9" freshman, lets loose a three point shot.

The Dolphins, who defeated the Tritons in a previous match, may have overlooked their opponents as SCC guard/forward Kamela Lyons explained.

"I don't think we came out prepared, because we beat them last time and we thought it would be an easier game," she said.

"We weren't big headed, we just weren't pumped to play."

The defining moments of the game ensued during the opening half. While exchanging early back-and-forth baskets with Shoreline, Edmonds started to set the tempo, scoring more consistently and more often.

They made 46 percent of their first-half field goals, scoring on 11 out of their 24 shots, compared to the Dolphins' 25-percent accuracy, which consisted of seven out of 28 basket attempts.

Both teams established zone defenses and utilized ball movement to negate each other's perimeter. The Tritons started lighting up the Dolphins immediately after utilizing the inbound pass.

Basketball News

The SCC women's basketball team, hoping to bounce back after losing to Edmonds, came up short against Everett, losing 59-48.

The Shoreline men also fell short, losing to Everett 90-83. The loss doused their playoff hopes.
Ten minutes into the first half, Edmonds had a commanding 20-6 lead over the Shoreline women.

SCC countered with man-to-man defense and briefly rallied before switching back to their preferred zone.

The game looked as if it might change momentum in the Dolphins' favor when Lyons drilled a three-pointer, bringing SCC within nine points, but the Tritons finished strong, leading 27-15 when the buzzer sounded, ending the first half.

The second half resumed with Edmonds taking control. They were able to use quick passing to break down the Dolphins' defense and find openings.

However, after 10 minutes they seemed to lose their focus and left the gate open for SCC, who took advantage of the situation.

Shoreline lured the Tritons in a rough-and-tumble match in which both teams committed turnovers and missed many shots. Shoreline started to get better offensive exchanges, and at the seven-minute mark, SCC guard Lacey Wolken charged toward the key, lobbing up an unorthodox under-handed hook shot that sunk into the net, bringing the Dolphins within seven points.

However, Edmonds wouldn't be denied. They countered with a three-point field goal followed by a three-point play on an SCC foul, winning 51-39, ending the Dolphins' shot at playoff contention.

The loss bumped Shoreline's record down to 5-9 in league play.
