Dolphins gear up for another season

Women's Volleyball Outlook:
While improving over last years amazing season may seem a bit intimidating, these girls are up for the challenge. Shoreline's 2001-02 women's volleyball team took home the Northern Region Championship and placed fifth out of 16 at the conference tournament. But this year they are looking to take it all home. Behind the leadership of two of last years all star team members, Jessica English and Tara Glover, these ladies are ready for the season to begin.
Returning Coach Mark West says, "This is a great group of student athletes. They are a disciplined team both on and off the court. The returning sophomores worked hard and came to pre-season ready to play. They are being pro-active in looking forward to their final season, and working towards another championship. We look forward to another competitive season and a fun year at NWAACC."
Keep your eye on these up-and-coming players: Rebecca Werden, Teresa Causin, Leanne Schmid, Yulissa Zamudio (who stands 6'2"), Shannon Cullier and Amanda Merkley.
Although Shoreline is one of the top teams in the Northwest division, a few to watch out for will be Edmonds and Bellevue. Those should be great games to come and watch, so I hope to see all of you out there cheering these ladies on for all of their hard work and determination.
Women's Soccer:
Under new Head Coach Mark Szabo, the ladies soccer team is preparing for a challenging season ahead. The women's soccer program is thrilled to have Szabo along as the head coach this season. He has an extensive background in the sport.
This season will focus on building a strong and successful team, while creating a source of pride in the Shoreline community for these ladies.
In coach Szabo's opinion, "This is a rebuilding year with potential. If we stay healthy we will surprise more than a few opponents."
This is a very young team with only four sophomores, but they are all full of energy. Leading the Dolphins on the field is Becky Wiley, Midfielders Lisa Vasquez and Miho Kashimura and defender Melissha Gasca. Watch for these girls to shine most brightly against top rated opponents Clark and Bellevue.
Men's Soccer:
This year will be coach George Dremousis' first full year as the men's head soccer coach, and it looks to be a promising one.
With a full roster of 21 men, only five will be returning from last year. In hopes of improving on last years season, the men's team is working hard.
"The team is much improved over the 2001 bunch. A balanced attack and a solid back line that will anchor a team that is young. But deep, Devin Johnson is lightning quick in the net and Alen Fikic is a proven goal scorer." Says coach Dremousis.
A few others to keep your eyes on this year will be Midfielders: Steve Bartkowski, Jesus Martinez and Will Barrett along with Stewart Tracy upfront and Ryan Calsyn and Joe Fiala in the backfield.
For those planning to attend the games a few to mark on your calendars this season will be against Bellevue, Tacoma and Highline.
