Lecture Series At UW's Kane Hall Addresses Attacks

      In response to the tragic events of September 11, the Jackson School is presenting a series of seven Open Classroom lectures. Experts are presenting their perspectives and the audience has an opportunity to pose written questions. These lectures are free and open to the public. Beginning with the Oct. 18 lecture,"The Taliban and Global Terror Inc." Tickets will be required and there will be open seating. Tickets to all lectures are available at the University Bookstore and the UW Ticket office.

      Unless there is a change in venue, all sessions will be held on the UW campus in Kane Hall beginning at 7:00 PM and concluding at 9:00 PM . Food and drinks are not allowed, and backpacks are not allowed in the buildings. Once doors are closed, there will be no re-entry for the lecture, as all the sessions are being taped. Doors will re-open for the Q/A period.

      Parking for lectures held at Kane Hall are available in the Central Plaza Underground Parking Garage Located on 15th and 42nd.streets The following presentations will take place on consecutive Thursday evenings beginning Oct. 4.

      At least the first four lectures will be taped for re-broadcast on UWTV, TVW, and the Research Channel. It is also likely that KUOW radio will tape and re-broadcast the lectures. The Oct. 4 offering, An Introduction to Islam, featured Jere L. Bacharach, Director of the Jackson School of International Studies and Professor of Middle East History. It will be televised on Oct. 24 at 2:00 PM and 9:00 PM on channel 27. Please refer to the Jackson School website, jsis.artsci.Washington.edu, for further airing times.
