Message from the Executive Board Next month, Shoreline Community College student leaders will storm Capitol Hill to meet with members of Congress to ask for increased funding for Financial Aid, Pell Grants, Child Care, Work-Study, job training and Employee Educational Assistance. On March 27th, the SCC students will join Community College students from across on the country to advocate on issues of access to education as part of a conference hosted by the American Student Association of Community Colleges (ASACC), a national organization representing Community Colleges. The Shoreline Community College delegates will meet with members of Congress representing Shoreline's district. Students will prepare for the Capitol Hill visits through workshops and skills forums organized by the ASACC. The students volunteering to advocate for students on y our behalf during spring break are: Emily Burt, SBA Treasurer, Model Arab League Treasurer and Phi Theta Kappa VP Kevin Shin, President of the Korean American Student Association Jenette Soliz, President of Mi Grupo, Campus Activity Programmer Norm Rogers, SBA Senator, CIP program Annabelle Udom, Campus Activity Programmer This diverse group of student leaders was selected based on campus involvement and proven commitment to the College. The student delegates also participate in student leadership trainings on campus as part of Student Visioning, Empowerment and Leadership Team (SVELT). In preparation, the student delegates encourage students to bring their contributions and stories about how these issues of access to higher education affect them so that these delegates can hand deliver them to Capitol Hill. Or sign a Student Government prepared postcard expressing your concern with the issue.
