Dolphin Baseball
Looking to Salvage Season
Staff Writer
At 3-18 overall and 1-4 in NWACC play, there hasn't been much to cheer about for the Shoreline Dolphins Baseball Team this season.
But Coach Steve Seki remains upbeat as the Dolphins enter the teeth of their league schedule."Our guys are still playing and working hard despite our record," Seki said. "it's a good sign that we could get this thing turned around."
In their last game, Shoreline was trounced 8-2 by an Everett team which currently resides at the top of the NWACC standings (16-5, 5-0). Part of what has been been hurting the Dolphins so badly this season, according to Seki has been a lack of timely hitting.
"A lack of clutch hitting has really held us back,"Seki said. "we just need to gain more consistency on both sides of the ball."
Compounding the problem is a tendency to give up the big inning. The Dolphins have managed to stay competitive through most of their games aside from one or two bad innings.
"We often play very well for seven or eight innings,"Seki said. "but it's those one or two that get away from us that have our record where it is."
Next up for Shoreline is three more games this week against powerhouse Everett, followed by a weekend home and home against North Division rival Douglas (11-11, 2-2).
