The new look for the Shoreline
Community College Web site went live Friday, June 15, 2012.
"This is the latest step in improving our Web presence, our
face to the world" said Jim Hills, special assistant to the president for
communications, marketing and government relations. “This past September, we
began the process of converting the site to OU-Campus by OmniUpdate. OU gives
us a robust content management system behind the site and allows us to give more
content responsibility back to the various departments and divisions.”
Now, with OU-Campus in place, the
college is able to easily apply the new look across the entire site.
“We still have some conversion
work to do in some areas, but most of the site is moved and has the new look,”
Hills said.
The new design is the work of Al
Yates, a faculty member in the Visual Communications Technology programs.
The next steps will be to add the same kinds of navigation found on
the homepage to all the other pages on the site. That will come over the summer
as the college works with OmniUpdate to create and apply new templates to the
pages. In addition to the new navigation, all the pages will get wider on the
screen.
Working on the information displayed on the site will continue,
too. OU-Campus allows many more users across campus to have access to pages.
That training has been ongoing this past academic year and will continue as
needed.
The college will now start working with OU on a new mobile Web
site. Shoreline was the first community college in the state to have mobile
apps, launching apps for Apple products, the Android system and Blackberry. The
college also already has a mobile Web site, but is looking to make
improvements, Hills said.
“New mobile templates will allow
college personnel to build out a more robust and dynamic experience for users
on mobile devices,” Hills said. “Already our data show increasing traffic from
mobile devices and the industry projection is for that trend line getting
steeper and steeper.”
